Adventures at the Asia-Pacific Leather Fair

I’ve just come back from an amazing, whirlwind week in Hong Kong, where I attended the Asia Pacific Leather Fair and Cashmere World. I was there to meet new suppliers and source fabulous new bags for my upcoming collections.

The trade show took place at the Hong Kong Convention Centre and it was huge, with row of row of booths where suppliers displayed samples of their goods. European suppliers were on the ground floor, along with Cashmere World, while the Asian suppliers took over the top floor. It was like Santa’s toyshop at Christmas. I spent the first day just walking around, soaking up the atmosphere and sampling the goods.

Going to the trade show gave me an opportunity to meet suppliers face to face. I concentrated on the smaller suppliers, because I want to create exclusive ranges of products and I met some wonderful craftspeople. I met a man from Bali who makes wonderful python-skin bags in all the colours of the rainbow and a Korean man who makes shoulderbags that combine practicality with elegance. It was great to be able to see and feel their bags for myself.

Visiting the trade fair was an incredibly enriching experience. It’s really helped me take my business to the next level. I was able to source stock my entire Spring/Summer collection for 2013. I’m confident that my new collections will have something for everyone, from trendy python clutches to classic totes that are perfect for a day at the office. And I’m looking forward to sharing all the goodies I picked up over the coming months.
